John's new PB buff

I hit Grapevine with John tonight. It wasn't that hot and the boat trouble wasn't bad. We set up around 6 then I spodded for about 30 minutes and we chucked lines in. I don't think 20 minutes had passed and john had a complete dropback. It wasn't fighting at all then it took off when it came to the net. It turned out to be John's new PB buff at 21-10.

I had a run that dropped off halfway in then a front blew through and the wind picked up so we headed out.

It's too HOT

And not the fishing, it's so hot outside it's keeping me inside!

I headed over to the secret spot this morning and by 8:30 it was hot enough that pretty much all the carp in the spot I was in had shut off the feed. i didn't really feel like chasing them in another spot so I just started blindcasting. I hooked a little drum that got off then landed a smallish longear. Not bad but still no carp
I'm planning on going to Scott's Landing tonight with John and Amadeo euro carp fishing. I'll report back.

What happened to PB?

I've been gone. Where?

Yeah, Paris.
I've been in London, Paris, and Rome for the past week. I have a ton of pics but i'll just give you a taste. Before the questions NO I didn't get any fishing in. I really wish I had gotten some in, but there was just no time.

Sandbass blitz!

The sandbass are ON at Lake Lavon! The sandies were literally schooling ON the boat ramp when we pulled up. They stayed along about a mile long stretch of bank but they kept moving so we had to chase them. They were biting anything you could get in front of them, mostly rattle traps, topwaters, or the simple silver spoon. I left the fly rod at home(Bad mistake!) this trip but i'll for sure have it next time!

 2 at a time!

It's that time of year, so go chase the sandies!

Stealing Jonathan's job

So Jonathan(Bluegillonthefly) went to Alaska and returned last week. oh, and...What? No pictures yet? No current sunfish picture greatness either. hmm...

I kind of consider his blog to be the source of cool pics of the beloved sunfish species. So here I kind of stole Jono's job. I'll get on with the post.

So...I headed out to Lady Bird Lake, Austin Texas today(I was in Austin for the most amazing carp session ever. period, but that's another story that can't be released just yet) I set up the carp gear and broke out the 4wt.  I wanted a Rio Grande Cichlid, which is, if you didn't know, one of the coolest fish species ever. The only cichlid species native to the US.
Mission accomplished. Rios are just epic.

Then I got a redbreast sunfish.

Then a redear sunfish. These get huge but this one was a bit lacking in size.

Then a fish that very few people see on a regular basis(unless you are Jonathan, who seems to catch more of these in a week than I have caught ever)
The Redspotted Sunfish everyone, Lepomis Miniatus

Just when I thought "wow, pretty cool day!" my middle rod screamed off. Yess! My first LBL common! It would not stop, it tore off to the other side of the lake. it was so far out I could see it splashing in the margins on the other side of the lake. Dangit!

I finally gained my line back and after a few attempts and almost busting my ass on the rocks I had him in the net. Very nice common at 13lbs even. First LBL common but definitely not my last.
Absolutely spotless common. Came on 2 kernels of fake maize, 1 red and 1 yellow.

Awesome day, especially for the short 2 hours I was out there. I caught a bunch of other sunfish and left with a smile on my face. That's how it's done.

Pond action

Made my way out to the Library Canal last night and caught a few nice ones.
This is the absolute smallest bass i've ever caught. Keep in mind that's a size 12 Theo's bomber. That bass was maybe an inch and a half long. Smolt of the month contest bound!

This is a true 10 inch bluegill. Put a really nice bend in the Loomis 4wt. Caught a few of these but this was by far the biggest. The Theo's bomber works great!

Water was a little murky after last week's storms but a bright colored fly really pulled the big bluegill out of their hiding. I was actually searching for a warmouth but all I caught were bluegill and greenies.
